Shark Freediving

Amazing news from one of the biggest freediving centres in the world, Dahab in Egypt. This evening some idiots decided to put three bombs in the town center and blow them up with the insane reason of making as much casualties as possible. How does one mind get so insane that you would even think about doing so. Anyway, news is still very unclear but the authorities estimate 23 death and 60 wounded. One of the wounded is Sam Still, not critical, but enough to be transported the hospital in Cairo. Sam is the worldchampion static apnea of 2005. He was there for some training. A lot more freedivers and others are staying over there and most have reported in to say that they’re okay.

Some friends of mine are leaving tomorrow to Dahab, and they’re still going. Wow! Well, 6 years ago I would have done the same, because when you get frightened and don’t go then the terrorists will have won! But that’s not so easy to say anymore when you have 2 kids walking around. Strange how things change when you become a parent.

Good luck to the people in Dahab who make a living of tourism, it will be a difficult season! Good luck to all the wounded, and condoleances to the family of the fatalities. Sad, very sad…
