Update on Championships Egypt

Yehia.jpgSome communications were received yesterday from Yehia, the organizer of the team world championships in egypt this year. Apperantly 21 countries registered for their intent to participate. So from experience we know that in the end 50% of them, 10 countries will really go. But hey, maybe this time everything will be different and many more countries will still subscribe and come to this event.

It’s good to see that Italia is back and going and I’m wondering which athletes will come. Furthermore I still miss some other countries who are normally present. The absence of Russia should not be taken lightly, to name just one.

If you have any questions to the organizer put your question in the comments below. In a few days I’ll do an interview with them for a magazine! So any open points and questions can then be asked as well. So for everybody who has interest of going, you can read the email if you read further.

Dear AIDA Nationals & Freedivers,

As of August 31st, a total of 21 Countries Registered their Intent to Participate in the 5th AIDA Freediving Team World Championship in Hurghada, Egypt this coming December 1-12, 2006! It looks like the Freediving World is headed for record numbers this year!

Countries that registered both a Men’s & Women’s Team: Denmark, Italy, France, Mexico, Slovenija, Venezuela, Finland, Japan, USA, Australia, United Kingdom, Sweden, Greece, New Zealand, Canada, Germany & Egypt.

Country that registered a Men’s Team: Hungary

Country that registered a Women’s Team: South Africa

Countries that registered a Mixed Team: Switzerland & Norway

*Note: For those of you that didn’t manage to meet the deadline of August 31st you are still welcome to register your Country Team(s) Intent to Participate by filling in the attached ‘Registration Step 1 Form’ and emailing it to wc@apneaegypt.com The only difference now is since the deadline of August 31st has passed, unfortunately we cannot afford you the 50 Euro discount per person on your participation fee’s. For further information concerning Registration read on below or at http://www.apneaegypt.com/registration.html

As we’ve specified in previous messages below and at http://www.apneaegypt.com/registration.html the next step in registering your Country Team(s) is ‘Registration Step 2 – Confirmation of Participation’. This second and final step in registering your Country Team(s) also offers you the fantastic opportunity of further savings by affording you a discount of 75 Euro per person on the applicable Participation Fee if you meet the deadline of September 30, 2006!

‘Registration Step 2 – Confirmation of Participation’ is twofold: Download the ‘Registration Step 2 Form’ (which will be available at http://www.apneaegypt.com/registration.html by September 1, 2006), fill it out in its entirety (just as you did the Registration Step 1 Form) and send it to wc@apneaegypt.com and send by bank transfer (required payment details will be on ‘Registration Step 2 Form’) the Participation Fee’s for each competing athlete, non-competing athlete alternate and coach or captain in their entirety, by the Deadline of September 30, 2006.

*Note: You are still able to register your Country Team(s) ‘Confirmation of Participation’ after September 30, 2006, but as you would have missed the deadline you will not be awarded the 75 Euro per person discount on the applicable Participation Fee.

Please be advised that we are fully aware that the ‘Registration Step 2 Form’ is not available on the official website yet. We are overcoming a technical glitch and will have the form available for you as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience!

We would appreciate it if you would please not send your registrations to: apnea@aida-egypt.org but to: wc@apneaegypt.com Thank you!

Kindly,

Yehia M. Safwat

    Just a quick comment,
speaking to a russian athlete (Igor Orel) competing here in Greece this weekend he stated that Russia is sending both a M and F team. So they have most likely not got around to registering yet.

    Cheers Stavros

Just a quick question…could they be specific about the Egypt Air discount, what it is and how we can take advantage of it…I would like to know sooner than later so that I may find out the cost through them versus what I can find on my own. Tks.

    Cheers, William

Two questions – what sort of security measures will be in place to ensure there will be no danger to athletes?

Second, the cost of international transfers is quite prohibitive, particularly when you take into account foreign exchange rates. It is also difficult to perform. Is there any chance the organisers can set up a Paypal account?

    Cheers,
    Ben
