Martin Stepanek Resigns From PFI

martin.jpgNews just got out that Czech Freediver Martin Stepanek has resigned from Performance Freediving International where he succesfully setup a freediving company together with Kirk Krack and Many-Rae Cruickshank. Martin release the following statement on his website:

I want my friends and fellow freedivers to know that I’m taking a huge step that’s going to change my life. After nearly six years devoted to establishing Performance Freediving International, I’ve decided to leave the company. My vision has grown apart from PFI and I believe I can contribute more to our sport and to our community by pursuing it independently. I thank all of you for your support and wish the best to PFI.

I must say that I’m pretty surprised by this step. PFI already looked as a very strong bonded team, and surely if you look at what that team has accomplished in the years and in what growth path they are I didn’t see this step coming. The photo above was included with the press release. Is it a little gesture, as in turning his back against… speculation, speculations…

Anyway, news is out that Martin is now in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for some pretty intense training to beat Herbert Nitsch his big progression and all the world records he has achieved lately. If you read his statement correctly you can assume that Martin will continue with freediving records but also that he wants to contribute to the sport and therefore probably continue giving courses by it’s own and his company. Maybe this logo I found is something of a small hint for his new company?
