Shark Freediving

AIDA just released some information about the AIDA Freediving World Championships 2008 and 2009. In 2008 we will see another Team WC and in 2009 the individual WC. AIDA is now asking for interested parties for organizing these competitions. Deadline for the 2008 comp is May 1st 2007 and for the 2009 comp October 1st 2007. So if anybody is interested for that very big team competition you’ve got 2 months to decide if you want to organize this and see if you’re able to raise all that sponsorship money that’s needed. Time enough I would say… I think AIDA will be happy if only 1 organizing committee will come forth.

The individual competition is divided in two; one pool competition with static, dynamic with AND without fins. And a depth competition we’re at least one depth discipline will be made, but more if the organizer is up to the task.

After the deadline has been reached to show your interest in organizing AIDA will closely be working together with the organizing committees to come up with a full plan. Then after six months there will be an official vote in the assembly to choose from all those organizing committees that have subscribed.

To give you an idea about how many people are ready to organize big world championships; For the team competition of 2006, Pool WC 2007 and Depth WC 2007 there was only 1 candidate for each. So everybody should be glad that there was always somebody who was willing enough to do this big task. And I don’t have the numbers by hand but if I remember correctly there was only 1 or 2 times in the history of AIDA that more then 1 organizing committee signed up for a world championship.

AIDA World Championships 2008-2009

The AIDA Board would like to invite all AIDA Nationals interested to apply
for organising the following World Championships:

- World Championships by team 2008
- Individual World Championships 2009

Candidates can be AIDA Nationals or organizers working together with their AIDA National to organise a complete World Championship or a part of a World Championship. A World Championship consists of:

- Pool: static, dynamic with and dynamic without fins
- Depth: constant weight with or without fins, free immersion

Candidates for depth disciplines can choose to organise only one discipline or several depth disciplines.

All candidates can apply by sending in e-mail to the board mentioning which part they are interested in organizing and you motivation. Your application has to be with the board:

- for the World Championships by team 2008: May 1st, 2007
- for the Individual World Championships 2007: October 1st, 2007

After this deadline the board will take a decision of moving the deadline or start to work with the candidates that have applied. All candidates will
than be granted 6 months time to file a complete plan of the event they want to organize. Voting will start:

- for the World Championships by team 2008: November 2007
- for the Individual World Championships 2007: April 2008
