AIDA Announces Criteria And Judges For World Championships

aidajudge.jpgAIDA International has announced the official criteria on which all the athletes will be selected for the two world championships this year. It’s good to see that there is no minima for pool and depth so that every AIDA national has a possibility to send athletes to the competitions. Not every country has freedivers who dive over 50 meters depth yet.

Other interesting thing is that all top 10 athletes in the ranking of 2006 are automatically qualified. Pretty good idea, which in a way makes the ranking system much more interesting to watch and work for.

The pool championship in Maribor will accept 4 athletes per country per discipline and the depth championship in Sharm El-Sheikh will accept 3 athletes per country per discipline. Read further for the official announcement.

Furthermore the judges are selected for the pool championship and I’m very pleased with the fact that I’m one of the 8 judges that will be on side. Here is the complete list:

Bill Strömberg, SWE, Judge A
Grant W. Graves, USA, Judge A
Marcello de Matteis, ITA, Judge A
Nicolas Laporte, SUI, Judge A
Jorg Jansen, NED, Judge C
Ute Geßmann, GER, Judge C
Kimmo Lahtinen, FIN, Judge E
Melita Adany, CRO, Judge E

Dear Assembly,

This is the criterion for the National AIDA’s when it comes athletes who will participate at our TWO World Championships 2007.

Maribor – 1st to 7th of July 2007:

4 Women and 4 Men in each discipline per National AIDA.
+ The Top Ten athletes from the AIDA Ranking list 2006 in each discipline as well.
This means that some countries could have more than 4 athletes per disciplines.

Sharm el Sheikh – October 24th to 4th of November:

3 Women and 3 Men in each discipline per National AIDA.
+ The Top Ten athletes from the AIDA Ranking list 2006 in each discipline as well.
This means that some countries could have more than 3 athletes per disciplines.

The Top Ten athletes are automatic qualified to participate and there will be no minima when it comes to qualifying performance for the participating athletes.
