Shark Freediving

Around a year ago I first started visiting the excellent freediving video link collection of Ivo Truxa (aka Trux). It was a very big list with some very good stuff on it and it really had potential. But a few months ago I noticed that the website would not be updated anymore, which was no surprise because of the huge work it has to take to keep the list up to date. But to my surprise Ivo just announced a completely new version of his list, and instead of using static pages it has become an interactive media database where you can search for all media related to freediving. If you need a freediving book or a nice freediving movie, you can find it here. Not only that, you can help make it even better by submitting more stuff to the database. And if you thought that was it, you’re wrong! The media database is only a part of the website. There is also a very nice and well thought of freediving trainer program online. Before you can use it you have to register first and answer some pretty serious questions to show that you know enough about freediving to practice it safely. How serious are the questions? Well, the first time I didn’t make it… Real questions you have to really read to give the good answer. I must say I understand why Ivo would do this, but at the same time the level to register is now very high. Of course you want to keep the unexperienced and alike out of the site, but to what level. But in the end it’s Ivo who feels the responsibility on what he puts online, so he can make it as hard as he wants. And the reward is there when you get the correct answers!

After you correctly answered the questions you still have to okay 5 disclaimers. Done with that you can fill in all sorts of personal information and decide to share it with the rest of the users/team or keep it private. There are even a number of paid services on the site that give a much broader possibility of using the trainer. The trainer itself looks excellent! There are many predefined programs you can run. This together with sound and visuals on the screen to keep in sync with the program make it a very easy and fun way to use it. Really excellent work. Maybe I’ll come back to these features and a more in depth review of the trainer program in a later review. And lastly there is a special part on the site where Ivo shows a really weird collection of fins! Some people really took a pill too many when coming up for some fin ideas. Some amazing stuff, and sometimes even more amazing that it works and that they are really produced. Take a look here.
