Shark Freediving

After yesterdays article it’s time to talk about the most classic freediving discipline there is, and the only when almost every non-freediver can relate to; dynamic without fins. Everybody has tried this sometime in the swimming pool! Could you swim to the other side of the pool? Very funny if I think about it. No safety or buddy and swimming like crazy to get to the other side. If I think back about it… brrr dangerous.

Anyway, the time that I did one 25 meter lap underwater and felt like the god of the pool is over. Especially now I know all the records and freedivers who are good at it. There is a pretty big group of freedivers over there who can make some impressive underwater distances in this discipline.

Let’s talk about the 63 men who are competing in this discipline. My prediction for the final is the following; Herbert Nitsch, Stig Severinsen, Alexey Molchanov, William Winram, Mitja Štampfer, Henning Larsen, Timo Jattu and Claude Rolland. My guess is that it will take at least a 135 meter plus dynamic to get in the finals. Top three prediction:
1. Herbert Nitsch (with a new WR)
2. Stig Severinsen
3. William Winram

So what about the 33 ladies? This is somewhat more difficult, but I’ll take my best shot. The final will consist of; Natalia Molchanova, Natalia Avseenko, Johanna Nordblad, Elisabeth Kristoffersen, Karla Fabrio, Sumiko Nishioka, Kathryn McPhee and Eva Tommerup Johnson. Minimum distance to get in the finals 91 meters and the top three:
1. Natalia Molchanova
2. Kathryn McPhee
3. Johanna Nordblad
