Freedive Central

freedivecentral.jpgIt was March 25th 2006 when Freedive Central was launched. Paulo Nobrega and Francois Gautier got the idea to create a tool that could be used by the entire freediving community.

francisco_gautier.jpgIn general a freediver could create a freediver account, insert loads of info about yourself, promote your sponsors and courses, enter competitions and be on the special Freedive Central ranking.

paulo_nobrega.jpgOrganizers get the possibility to create an organizer account, promote your AIDA event, promote your sponsors, use loads of tools to organize your AIDA comp, inscribe athletes and contact them, edit results (live), have your results in the FC ranking (live) and insert some pics about your event (live). All this was complimented with a forum to create a nice freediving competition community.

freedivecentral2.jpgIt’s been 1,5 year ago since the introduction and it’s sad to see that such a great website creates such low interest with freedivers. The last forum posts goes back to July and the last article is about Loic Leferme his accident. Yes, it’s hard to match the big deeperblue community but if you’re a competition freediver, this website is for sure for you. There are 675 freediver profiles available on their website and it’s a very easy to use system. The only problem is the activity on the website.

Personally I think it’s a great website! It got loads of potential and if AIDA would fully backup this system it would really add something to the freediving community. But it the mean time we see an excellent project slowly drifting away.

I agree with you Jorg – it’s always good to see more than one resource for FreeDivers and there are a handful of excellent resources out there, Freedive Central being one (you being the other of course!).

Thanks for the compliment! Of course without Deeperblue, the freediving world wouldn’t be the same…
