AIDA Sinking?
After my last post about the current situation about AIDA International, no new news has come out with regards to the situation. It’s been over a month now. With all the information that is coming from the different people who have a role in it, it is safe to say that AIDA is collapsing. The strange thing is, that everybody is so quiet about it!
What do we know?
- The AIDA Technical Commission, responsible for the rules, doesn’t exist anymore. All people have stepped out and it’s gone.
- Some board-members have resigned, and unfortunately those were the ones who were actually working and trying to make a difference. Still no official word about it.
- The education commission is also on a brink of collapsing.
- Different administrative tasks aren’t being done, like printing judge and education cards, updating the ranking, updating judge experience.
- There is a big discussion going on at the Assembly where they already started to demand for resignation of the current board and for a new election with new statutes.
According to Sebastian Näslund (who is an assembly member and has the insights I don’t have), it all comes down to one big problem: unprofessionalism! Because of this there are four big problems, that are already going on for years:
- Rules
- Judges
- Democracy
- The Leadership
Besides only noticing the problems, he also comes with solutions. All in all, if you’re interested in the future of AIDA, you really have to read his writings about this.
For sure I will come back to this if there are some updates again.

thank you Jorg. Seems like the AIDA is in a quagmire of dissention and nothing is happening to promote the sport. Hopefully, re-organization will have the AIDA emerging like a phoenix from the ashes and the we can move on to bigger and better things.
Well this had to happen sooner or later. I would agree on the unprofesionalism, such an organization. I’m affraid that good will and wishes aren’t always enough. Btw. I had one very unpleasant and unprofesional situation with AIDA once…
Lets hope so!@carla
@SanSan care to share?
My question is: can you really expect professional from people not being paid? On my mind, that’s the root of the problem. Nobody I know feels comfortable openly criticizing someone at AIDA, because we are all aware they do it in their free time. Yes, I know they have different advantages, like free trips, or sometimes they perhaps even manage to get some other profit from their functions, but they still remain volunteer, and amateur. Hence asking them to behave professionally is actually oxymoron. Personally, I am for getting money more involved – once the people are working for their work, we can really demand professionalism, quality, and responsibility. And if we do not get it, we have to have the possibility to fire them fast! Not like in the current situation where we have to wait till they dissolve themselves alone.
err – did not read after myself before hitting the Submit button, so excuse my different mistakes and errors. For example I wanted to write: “once the people are getting paid for their work” instead of “…working for their work”
@trux completly agree and nothing to add! Because the assembly has the power, hopefully they see it the same way.
If I shared I would have to point out somebody we all know directly and I don’t want to do that.
I also know that there has been quite some money in AIDA in the past and that I would as a bit how it was spent. So as I would totaly agree on the “being paid for work” part I would point out that it is also a question of how the existing money is being spent.
I also organized the WCH in Maribor and did not even get a propper thank you form AIDA.
