July Competitions & Events

And here is once again a calender update, together with a small note from me. In the past two weeks I’ve been pretty busy with the last step of upgrading the shark.nu website to the latest standards and models that we needed for continuing with the expansion of the website and its possibilities. In fact it took so much time and effort that blogging was pretty much stopped for that time. Sorry about that and to everybody who expected some updates. This last update was the  final one to bringing our complete platform to a standard WordPress 3.0 multisite environment, with only standard plugins and extensions. This way it will be much less time consuming on the technical site for us to run this website so that we can focus more on the content, which is a good thing.

On with the events! As you could see from yesterdays post, the world championships in Japan have started, which will be for sure the main news on the site for the next 10 days. But of course there are more competitions and events going on in the month of July. So let’s take a look at them!

No world record attempts, but at least an official announced german record attempt:

On July 10 Sergio and Olga Alvarez have announced to attempt to break the current German records in the discipline dynamic with and without fins in the lake. Germany have still a seperate discipline for this. Current records are 128m and 105m by Barbara Jeschke DNF, or 136m DYN Nik Linder. This record attempt is being organized by Andreas Pap. Klaus Wagner will be the main judge on site.

April Competitions & Events

It has been a while since the last calendar post and I thought I should restore this habit of previewing the coming month and what will be going on in the freediving world. But before I list the competition for the coming months a few things:

Ivo Truxa from Apnea.cz is adding some amazing functionality to his website. One of the things he has added is a freediving calendar which keeps track of freediving competitions from different freediving organizations. I’m not yet sure if events and freediving record attempts are also listed, but we keep this in mind. So for the time being I will for sure use his tool as guideline.

My own manual labor calendar has not been updated for some time and I’m thinking about how to continue with this. While there is a lot of interesting data collected in the calendar, I don’t know if it has any use to continue with it. I will decide in the coming month. In the mean time I moved the static page. This is no problem if you subscribed to the ICAL or XML feed of the calendar.

So below for the first time the freediving competition calender embedded for you ease. More about this all in a few weeks.

Freediving Calendar By Stig

stig-bookAnother great freediving calendar has come out. This time by Danish freediver Stig Severinsen who runs a successful company called Blueconsult. Stig just has released a book where he worked on for several years.

The book deals with different aspects of breathing and breath holding and explains how you can take advantage of a more conscious breath in your daily life. This being to reduce stress, gain more energy, sleep deeper, perform better in sports, reduce periods of illness or pain or just staying strong and healthy.

At the moment only available in Danish, but maybe soon in English as well. Click here to download the calendar and enjoy the wonderful pictures.

Crystal Clear Water Competition

Between 27th and 31st of July, 2009 crystal clear waters of Lake Hancza will be a place for “Crystal Clear Water Competition”.

This will be the first competition in polish lakes that’s going to be included in the official AIDA ranking.
The event will feature 3 major Freediving disciplines:
Constant weight
Free immersion
Unassisted
The competition will take five days with a break after the second day (total of 4 diving days). Each competition day the competitor will have the option to choose the discipline they dive. The diver that’s going to collect the deepest tag will be a winner of each discipline. Results will be collected per discipline and will not be summarized. Due to the limits of the lake, maximum depth is set to 100 m.
There will be a counter weight system responsible for the safety of freedivers.

For anybody that lives in or near Poland, there is good news if they want to attend a depth competition in that region. I received the announcement below, and I must say that already based on the competition name I want to go. Pretty nice competition website by the way!
