VB2010 – Results Day 8 – William Trubridge New CNF WR

With all the crazy announced depths for today, it looked like war was coming. In the end William Trubridge stands alone with a new world record in his favorite discipline constant no fins. He managed to do a dive to 95 meters in a time of 3:56 minutes. 95 meters deep, without fins… let that sink in for a minute! Amazing…

The other contenders for the constant no fins crown didn’t deliver. William Winram turned early at 56 meters and Herbert Nitsch at 74. But it’s rumored that Herbert just did a training dive today, so who knows what will happen on the last day.

Ryuzo Shinomiya from Japan set a new Japanese constant weight record with a perfect 108 meter deep dive. Alfredo Romo set the Mexican Free Immersion record to 58 meters. Great performances by all!

Only one day to go and one can only hope for some more spectacle. Herbert needs a 86 meter constant no fins dive to win the Suunto Dive-Off challenge. Dave Mullins announced that he will be trying constant weight once more. Complete start list as soon as it’s published.

Two New World Records: Herbert Nitsch 124 CWT & William Trubridge 116 FIM

Amazing day once again! Biggest news is for sure the two new world records today during the Vertical Blue competition in the Bahamas. Herbert Nitsch from Austria took back the freediving world record in the discipline constant weight. He did this by diving with his monofin to 124 meters depth in 4:10 minutes. William Trubridge from New Zealand broke Nitsch his 3 day old world record in the discipline Free Immersion by diving tot 116 meters, two meters deeper then the previous record. The dive took him 4:09 minutes.

Besides the two world records there were also two new national records set. Misuzu Hirai took the Japanese women’s constant weight record by diving to 73 meters in 2:20 minutes. William Winram took the Canadian national record in the discipline free immersion by diving to 96 meters in 3:27 minutes. Dave Mullins didn’t achieve his depth of 118 meters but managed to get close with a dive to 110 meters. Congrats to all and yet another amazing day!

New WR: William Trubridge 92 Meters CNF

Freediver William Trubridge has just set a new world record in the discipline constant weight without fins. He did a freedive to a depth of 92 meters in a time of 3:45 minutes during the Vertical Blue event that takes place in the Bahamas.

Everybody else was successful with his dives, except Carla Sue Hanson (SP), Misuzu Hirai (touch) and William Winram (pulling).

More info soon!

Vertical Blue 2010 – Clash Of The Titans

Just received an email from William Trubridge announcing the Vertical Blue competition of this year. And wow, it will be very special!

The competition takes place from April 17 to 27 and will have a very special competition format. All three disciplines will take place during this comp and the special thing is that Martin Stepanek, Herbert Nitsch and William Trubridge will compete against each other during this event!

This already impressive field will be completed by divers like Guillaume Nery, Ryuzo Shinomiya, Dave Mullins, Walter Steyn, William Winram and Robert King.  All in all it looks like it’s going to be the deepest competition of the year!

More information about the event and the special rules on William Trubridge his website.

Herbert Nitsch & William Trubridge Announce More Record Attempts

Herbert Nitsch and William Trubridge decided that the world championships were not enough to cover their need for records. They both announced several freediving record attempts for the week after the world championships at the same location, Dean’s Blue Hole in the Bahamas.

From December 6 till 12 Herbert Nitsch announced record attempts in Free Immersion, Constant weight with and without fins and Variable Weight (currently at 140 meters by Carlos Coste).

In that same week William Trubridge announced Constant without fins, Free Immersion and Variable Weight as well.

I’m curious what is coming. Fact is that whatever record will be broken during the world championships, it won’t hold long with these two amazing freedivers attempting some deep divers in the week after!

3 UK Freediving Pool Records

During the second great camberwell pool competition on May 31st in London (UK), three women broke the 3 standing national pool records in freediving.

Liv Philip

Georgina Miller broke Liv Philip old static record of 5:35 minutes by doing 10 seconds more and bringing it to 5:45 minutes. Mandy Buckley broke Ruth Griffin her record of 134 meters by doing a 140 dynamic with fins dive. And the last one was Liv Philip who improved her own record of 104 meters with 2 meters more, bringing it to 106 meters. Excellent results!

With the men the winner was Chris Holmes with a 5:05 minute static and a 133 meter dynamic with fins. It was his first competition, so big congrats to him! Georgina Miller took the first place with the women.

As I’m missing the result list from this competition and can’t say much more about this. William Trubridge was apparently also competing and tried to set a 150 meter dynamic without fins. Surface protocol didn’t go as planned, so he was disqualified. No more info at the moment, but will update this when I’ve got some more.

Update: You can find all the results over here.

2nd Trophy City of Peace

Last weekend there was an excellent dress rehearsal for the world championships taking place in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. Riccardo Mura and the ‘Only One’ Freediving Team (part of Apnea Academy Egypt) thought of every detail and organized a great competition called the 2nd Trophy City of Peace.

sara_campbell.jpgThere were a bunch of national records broken and once again Sara Campbell was there to impress. She did a 40 meter constant no fins dive but she still thinks her technique sucks and can be improved big time. The other UK national record she made was a 70 meter constant weight dive in a time of 2:43 minutes. What an improvement in such short time period, she now really is one of the worlds best constant weight women out there. Federico Mana did a 52 meter constant without fins Italian national record and Andrea Zuccari did a 42 meter constant without fins Swiss national record.

peter_pedersen.jpgThe safety was also tested properly. William Trubridge managed to do an excellent 75 meters without fins dive on the second day, but on the first day he had a blackout. Peter Pedersen really wanted to get the Danish/Nordic/Scandinavian constant weight record on his name that is currently in the hands of Timo Jattu from Denmark with a depth of 90 meters. So Peter tried a 91 meter dive but had a big blackout at 18 meters depth, which is pretty serious. After that he was prohibited to compete in the rest of the competition. Too bad for him. Well, if someone takes Timo’s 90 meter record, Timo is ready to take it back immediately. Training is going well for him and he’s already hitting 3 digit numbers.

No'Suit, No'Fins Swim Through Dahab Arch

gal1.jpgThis morning William Trubridge completed an unassisted, no-suit dive through the Arch at the Blue Hole in Dahab, Egypt. Wearing only a mask and a pair of speedos William swam down 55m to the entrance of the broad tunnel that connects the Blue Hole with the waters of the Red Sea, then 30m through the reef and 55m back up to the surface on the other side.

This is the first time the arch has been swum with no suit, and only the second time it has been done unassisted after William Winram became the first a month before in June. Underwater cameramen recorded the entire dive, and a video of the dive will be released soon on www.verticalblue.net. Amazing dive and congrats to William!
